NJ Gateway Federal Credit Union Offers "Shared Branching" to Members
Members enjoy greater convenience with account access at more than 2000 locations.
Monmouth Junction, NJ February 10, 2006 -- Rina Pantano, President and CEO of NJ Gateway Federal
Credit Union has recently announced that NJ Gateway now offers "Shared Branching," - a cooperative
network of Shared Service Centers
making it possible for members to access their accounts and make most banking transactions at
more than 2000 locations throughout the United States.
Ms. Pantano notes that members may use participating Shared Branching locations to cash checks,
make deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, transfers, purchase money orders, travelers checks or
official checks, or obtain cash advances and balance inquiries.
The concept of Shared Branching originated a little more than a decade ago when the first Credit
Union Service Center opened its doors in Birmingham, Alabama. Since that time the network has grown
to serve millions of credit union members across the country.
"Shared Branching," said Ms. Pantano, who is chairman of the 180-member New Jersey Credit Union
League, "is just one of many ways credit unions differ from other financial services institutions."
She added that although today’s marketplace can support a variety of options, "more and more people
are seeking the level of service offered by credit unions, which is not readily available to them in
the greater financial community."
"Whether we are lending money to help a member cover unexpected medical bills; giving financial
counsel; or being the channel that brings a young family together with their first home, as a credit
union, we make a difference in the lives of our members and our community we serve."
She further added that Credit Unions, unlike banks, are not-for-profit financial services
organizations, and are "very closely regulated" by the federal government. Credit union member
deposits are fully insured up to $100,000 through the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF).
In addition to savings and checking products and a wide variety of loans and mortgages, NJ
Gateway Federal Credit Union also offers free electronic services such as online bill pay, internet
banking, online loan applications, and online credit card banking.
