Monmouth Junction, NJ June 15, 2007 – Three members of the NJ Gateway Federal Credit Union Board
of Directors were appointed at the 38th annual meeting held recently at Pierre’s, Monmouth Junction.
Shirley L. Spruill of Somerset and J. Melvin Warren of Burlington, were re-appointed to three-year
terms. Paul Edelson of Oakhurst was appointed to a two-year term.
A board member since 1977 and a Director since 1985, Ms. Spruill is a veteran of more than 40
years in the credit union movement. She is a member of the Founder’s Club as well as Chairman of the
Board of Renaissance Community Development Credit Union; Chairman of the State of New Jersey Credit
Union Advisory Council; and member of the Board of Directors of the Small Credit Union Advisory
Council of the New Jersey Credit Union League.
J. Melvin Warren’s relationship with NJ Gateway extends back to 1973 when he joined as a member.
Ten years later he was appointed Director. Since 1983, Mr. Warren has served NJ Gateway as Chairman
of the Supervisory Committee and as Chairman of the Board of Directors. He currently serves as Board
Treasurer. An IBM retiree following some 30 years service in their finance and accounting division,
he is an active member of his church as well as a member of the Board of Trustees for the Burlington
County Community Action Program.
Paul Edelson, formerly a member of NJ Gateway’s Advisory Board, served as a director in 2006,
filling the seat of deceased director, Vincent Girardy. A member of NJ Gateway FCU since 1969, Mr.
Edelson retired from IBM after 25 years in sales. He has been involved in many community activities
in Ocean Township including serving 20 years on the planning and zoning boards and 12 years on the
Ocean Township Board of Education. Presently he is trustee of the Ocean Township Historical Museum
and a member of the Friends of the Ocean Township Library.
NJ Gateway Federal Credit Union was formed in 1969 to serve employees of IBM in Dayton. In 2005,
NJ Gateway was granted a community charter, allowing for the expansion of its field of membership to
anyone who lives, works, attends school or worships in Middlesex County.
Rina Pantano, NJ Gateway’s President and Chief Executive Officer and also Chairman of the Board
of the New Jersey Credit Union League, affirmed that credit unions historically "look out for the
interests of their members and provide a level of service not always available at other financial
institutions." She added that credit unions such as NJ Gateway "can and do make a positive
difference, not only for their members but also for the communities they serve."
